March is coming and along with it a new Free Pattern.
I've been busy with test knitting a baby afghan for a designer and also knitting a baby afghan for a baby gift. Valentines Exchanges are done and out plus a bookmark for another exchange. It's been busy 2 months. In between all that, I designed 2 new dishcloths. 1 freebie and 1 for sale.

I've been asked to host a KAL or Knit Off for the month of February. I haven't decided which I want to host, but this gave me incentive to design a new dishcloth. Yes, I know it's been awhile, but I'm also working on bottle holders and since I crochet much faster than I knit, it was a 'no brainer'. Sooo, I'm currently working on a new cloth.

Very exciting to say the least.
Brooke's Books yahoo group ( http://www.brookesbooks.com/Index.html ) was holding a 2000 member Give A Way and I won! I had to read my email message three times to be sure it wasn't spam or a joke. I'm telling you, I don't win contests very often if at all. The winner gets to pick 3 designs of their choice. I picked Love, Hope, Peace Angels. I love all her Angels but those just spoke to me.
I'll post photos of them when they arrive.
I hope everyone is having a very productive stitching month. Christmas is almost here and I'm 2 mittens short of being finished.

New Pattern Ready!

Sorry I've been away so long. I apparently have been missed by a few fans and I'm very happy they miss me. I didn't mean to stay away so long, I'm very sorry for that. I have been busy outside raking the winter leaves up and plucking weeds from the gardens. Test knitting for a great gal in a designing group we both belong to and designing a new dishcloth for you all. I can show you a photo but can't post the pattern till after April so you have time to leave me and come back in May. I hope you like it.

Which is one day closer to Friday and that's a good thing because the weekend is just around the corner.
My 'Flurries' cloth was featured as a 'Knit Off ' in a yahoo group I belong to and it's becoming a small success I think. Some of the photos from the ladies who are knitting the design are very beautiful and they're very happy and excited about knitting this pattern, which makes me very glad and honored. I'm only half way through mine and would have been done knitting it but came down sick with a bad cold that was graciously given to me by my neighbor's son who I was babysitting and had to take to the Dr's last Thursday. Well Saturday, it hit me and went straight to my chest. I now have pulled a muscle ( I think) in or around my left rib from the deep congested coughing I've done for the past 2 days. Dr's appt is for 9:30 this morning. Please, I hope he gives me something to make me stop coughing.

Difference Between Snood, Cowl, Neck Warmer

A snood is a type of headgear, historically worn by European women over their long hair. In the most common form it resembles a close-fitting hood worn over the back of the head. A tighter-mesh band may cover the forehead or crown, then run behind the ears and under the nape of the neck.

Neck warmer is essential for the winter season whenever you are around the world if you wish to maintain your neck and throat protected from the cold breeze.

The cowl (from the Latin, cuculla meaning "hood and rope") is a hood worn by members of religious orders. It also refers to a long, hooded cloak, with wide sleeves.

It would be so lovely when designers would correctly label their designs when posting their patterns to the correct term instead of what they think or want them to be... ie.. If you're going to design a neck warmer, than label it as such, don't say it's a cowl. Visa versa with the cowls. Snoods are also often mislabeled. I saw one pattern for a cowl and the designer called it a snood. Go figure!

Bi Colored Boxes Knit Cloth

Materials: 2 solid (1 light, 1 dark) w.w 100% cotton yarn
Size 4 needles, either straight or circulars.

Abbreviations: Wyif (with yarn in front, is always done on the wrong side)
Wyib (with yarn in back, is always done on the right side)
Notes: Always slip stitches as if to purl.
Border stitches are K3 on left and right of pattern.
If needed, use stitch markers to help you determine these stitches. K3, then pm, work pattern, pm, k3.

As you can see, I've not had much time for posting much of anything. With the Holidays finally behind me and everyone else, I've now had time to at least get photos taken of just some of the items I've made these past few months. All went as gifts. As usual, I have nothing to show for myself.. Hmm, isn't that always the case? I do hope to get back to designing some more cloths. I'd like to start incorporating some edgings for more elegant looks. We'll see how that goes.

My Fair Entries

I sent over a baby afghan, 2 Amigurumis, 1 Thread Ted, 1 pair of crochet and 1 pair of knit booties to my friend Cathy who lives in Queensland Aus.. Her and her daughter also had their entries sent in to their fair there. All our entries placed! We Three Rock!!!!

As for what I'm doing now? I'm knitting more booties, bibs, wrist cuffs dishcloths and soon, more Thread teds. I'll be selling them per my boss's request. She asked me to in with her and 2 other ladies to sell our crafts. One lady makes candles, my boss is now machine embroidery stitching and her SIL makes gift baskets. She wants to set up a booth to sell our things. Hopefully we'll do well but I do want to keep it to small manageable items. I'd like not to mass produce any one item but if I like it well enough I'll make more but in different colors.
The principle of the school I work at is due to become a Grandmother for the first time, so I've got to get her booties seamed and given to her within the next day or 2.

I'm trying to get photos taken of what I've finished, but want to have enough to show off first.

My little neighbor friend I've been watching saw me going through Etsy Amigurumi patterns online the other day and I came across a 'Pet Rock' pattern. Well he had to have one. So I bought it and made him one. I'm bringing it over to him today. He opted not to have the hat on, which was fine with me. He looks cute without a hat anyhow. What 11 year old doesn't want a Pet Rock??

Busy, Busy, Busy

First week from work for summer break I was bored stiff! I fell into a crafting depression and didn't want to do a thing. Well, the second week came around and our dear neighbors needed a sitter for their 2 kids. I was so happy to oblige. Their 14 year old wanted to learn to crochet, so off we went! Me teaching and her learning. Well, we're on our way. She still has tension problems, but she did crochet a water bottle holder. She wanted it to look just like me and she even picked the exact same blue as mine. We or I should say, she finished yesterday. Tomorrow we work on the shoulder strap then I'll sew the buttons on for her. She was sooo excited! Next up, her parent's afghan she wants to make them for Christmas. Whew! We're going to be busy. If only I can get her to ease up on the yarn a bit... Hmm, any ideas?

Well while all that went on, I was in a rush to get my fair entries shipped to Aus. I got an email Friday evening from a wonderful and dear friend of mine about the dates and she asked if I had any baby booties lying around. Well, no! But who says I can't whip some up? So, I went a hunting for bootie patterns. They had to be easy and fast! I managed to knit a pair of these on Saturday night while trying to watch Inkheart movie
and crochet a pair of these on Sunday. Not too bad for quickies eh?
Ok, I just had to hve my Lady Laurabug doll,
and the baby boy afghan to go along for the trip to be entries, so they got packed along with some goodies in a box for my friends, and it all shipped yesterday.

Good god the shipping price almost made me fall over but I knew it all had to go, so I swallowed hard, wiped the sweat off my brow and paid the lady..... Whew! I hope they arrive before the 17th ( keeping fingers crossed). O, almost forgot, Annabelle will be there again this year, as the stewards specifically asked that she come back as an entry. She's still in Aus living it up with my friends till after this year's fair, then I get her back. I've missed her so!

ps... I actually managed to create a new dishcloth pattern. Going live soon, so be on the look out for it!

This Dishcloth was designed and submitted in July of 2008 for the 2009 Dishcloth Calendar. All patterns submitted to the calendar has to be done and sent in a year ahead of time. There has been some question as to this pattern and one that was put out in the 2010 Calendar. This was the first and only Original. Well, School's almost out, which means, I'll not be working and on summer vacation. I've not been too busy with work that I didn't squeeze in some crocheting and knitting.
I started a lace shawl which if I showed you, you'd think I wasn't even interested in it. I swear I am, it's just that it's one of those 'you have to concentrate' patterns and you know when you're not in that mood, mistakes happen and I don't feel like frogging. So, that I'll save for another time when I actually have something to show for it.

After Easter, I started crocheting caps for my granddaughter who requested some without holes she said. Well the best I came up with was the striped Beanie from the web and one from Crochet World mag. Can't remember the issue right off hand.

She chose the colors, Pink, Gold, Blue, Purple. Which is in with the Blue, but I'll make her a purple cap. I had already made a pink cap so I made another using brown as the main with med. rose as the stripe. The gold was a bit hard, so I added maize as the striping to offset it a bit.

Now in between all that, my nieces wanted bracelets, so I found these Ballband cuffs on Ravelry and knitted those up. I'd like to make more as they really do work up quickly.

Now for the dumpling bag. A while back I said I was going to make more, but only had time for 1 which hasn't been sewn up and felted yet. I did manage to get it knitted on the way to see the kids over Easter weekend but that's as far as it got. Yea, I know, it's half the fun to shrink something, but I have to do it by hand before I pop it into the dryer, for further shrinking and my carpel tunnel has been flaring up lately. But I promise to get to it very soon, since I sooo want to embroider on it. Now that's the fun part! The yarn I used is Paton's Wool in Dark Teal.

This pattern will create a reversible cloth and looks great on both sides.

Size: One Size
Finished Measurements: 8½ x 9

Materials: One ball of ww cotton yarn. This cloth works best with any solid color.
1 set of US4 (3.5mm) needles.

Pattern Note: 3 Border stitches are as follows (k1, p1, k1) and will be known as (b) throughout the pattern. If you want to use stitch markers for these stitches you can, I did.

Surf’s Fortune Knit Scarf

This scarf is intended as a Man's scarf. Although if you used more feminine colors this could be for a woman as well. It's a quick knit so there's the instant gratification factor, which everyone loves.

Sample was made with Moda Dea Tweedle Dee Surf & Turf

Finished sample measured approx. 45” in length

Materials - 1 ball bulky weight yarn 3.5 oz
1 set of sz US 11 needles - 32 or 47” circular cable
Gauge not important.

Cast on 135 sts.
Row 1 (rs): K across to end.
Row 2 (ws): K1, P1 across ending K1
Repeat Rows 1 then 2 until scarf measures approx. 4 ½ - 5 inches in width but making sure you have enough yarn for bind off row.
Bind off in Knit stitch.
Weave in tails and block if necessary.

More like Monday blahs...lol
I caught a slight cold Saturday. Lovely huh. Especially when I've got Monday and Tuesday off from work for Mardi Gras - Fat Tuesday as they say here in the deep south. I don't celebrate or go to any of the parades. I've not gone to any parades since we moved here 15 yrs ago. I've not ever been one to fight crowds, especially drunk crowds, for beads. I won't even flash for beads either..LOL I don't think I'd get anything if I flashed...lol I've seen some gals flash their 'you-know-whats' though, but that was when we went to a parade in Slidel Louisana umpteen yrs ago. We took my parents to a Mardi Gras parade while they were here visiting, then drove down to the French Quarter. That's where all the flashing is. I mean drunk girls, and even a drunk guy...Now they'll throw beads for you know what's if you're a girl, but if you're a guy flashing your you-know-what you won't get nuthin'! And, Boy was he mad! LOL
I didn't know whether to be embarrassed for him, or laugh my butt off... I did both!
Anyhow, I've been getting ready for my son and his wife and 2 kids to come and visit from Jacksonville FL for the coming weekend. I have a backpack all but done for LucyJane and some caps for her older brother. These were done some time ago, I just never got her straps on because I needed her to be here to measure the straps to be sure they weren't going to be either too short or too long. Now I can finally get it complete. I even made a chapstick holder to match the bag. I found the pattern in a Crochet World mag. It's the one with the Teddy Bear ears and nose on the flap but I omitted all that and it came out just great.

There was a Michaels stock opened up last Wed. at the Hudsons Salvage, so after work last week, I drove over there and hit pay dirt on Soy Wool yarn and Tweedle Dee yarns I wanted, so now I can start knitting more Dumpling Bags and make more caps for my nephew. He requested some since he outgrew his others. I love the self striping colors of Tweedle Dee yarns and the boys really like the different colors as well. The whole Michaels stock was 50% off. I got 1 ball of every color T.D I could find and 2 balls of every color of the SWS I could find for the dumpling bags. These are so fun to knit. I also picked up some cross stitch cloth, threads, buttons, clock works for hubby. If you're a knitter and are interested there's a Ravelry group on these little bags.

Other than that, I've been just piddling around with 2 afghans that have been needing some serious crochet time. My MIL wants me to put them in the county fair coming this fall. I hope my thread ted is home from Australia by then. She's there for this years fair again. She was entered last year and won 1st place. One of the stewards asked that she be re-entered again this year, so I just let her stay at a friends place there in Queensland. If I have anything done in enough time for their fair, I'll ship to her and have it entered. I'm not sure what, but maybe a few Amigurumis. The people there aren't really into Amis or thread teds so this is a unique thing for them. I'm hoping my entries will get them to broaden their horizons..

What a Week

I've been trying to get a few items that my coworker requested from the skein of yarn she bought. Now she doesn't crochet nor does she knit, so when she saw the Petal Pink, she assumed it was baby yarn. She wanted me to make some booties with it and possibly a bear for her new granddaughter. Well the bear I could do, but not booties. I told her I had baby yarn in my stash, so I set to work and knitted a pair of Mary Janes from a Knit magazine. Very easy pattern I might add, which I need. Then I ran across another pattern for booties from an old Crochet magazine, so I pulled out some lavendar baby yarn and crocheted those. Well here comes the bear. Her request is an all Pink Bear. I thought about it for a while and even discussed it with my friend Evelyn. Evelyn suggested I ask if I could make a brown bear with pink jammies. So the next day, I asked my coworker if possibly I could make a brown bear with pink jammies. She said "No, I want a Pink Bear." I said, "But it'll be naked!" She said, 'Well it's not like it has anything down there." I said, 'How do you know have you looked lately?" She just laughed and laughed. I mean really, does anyone know if bears do or don't have anything down there?

Ok, so a day goes by and I made the bear, got all the parts done, started assembly. OOps, time to head off to work. So break time comes and I'm telling her it's all but done and I even had to crochet eyes and a nose so the baby can't chew them off. She says, ' You didn't have to do all that, it didn't have to have a face.' What?!?? No face?? Has she gone mad??? I looked at her, laughing the whole time and said, 'Well it's too late now, the head's already on the body and I ain't changin' it now.." Can you imagine a pink bear with no eyes to see with or a nose to breathe with? What kind of a Grandma is she anyway. All dolls and animals have to see and breathe for goodness sakes...LOLOL

The shawl is for my granddaughter's Cabbage Patch doll. The model belongs to me tho. Gotta have a model you know. They make sure the clothes fit.

My Best Friend Draco

I lost my best friend this morning. He was the love of my life for 11 years.
I'm so lost, I don't know where to begin. Draco was 6 months old when his mother passed away and I was devastated by her passing. I had Draco to keep me going during those times and I was there for him as well. He gave me much love and comfort over the years. Early this morning at the vets, he passed away very peacefully. I on the other hand well, anyone who has lost a beloved pet knows the emotions.

I was given this note by one of the gals as I was leaving that was written by 'Anonymous'
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It's called the Rainbow Bridge because of it's many colors. "Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water, sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who are hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face. Wow, I can't believe it's been that long since my last posting.
I've been in a slump in my knitting and crocheting. I've not had a creative
bug since before Christmas. I did finish a few things, but nothing in the way of designing at all.
That's not good! Have you ever wanted to do stuff, then next thing you know, 9 other things get started as well and the next thing you know, you brain got all muddled and you can't do anything? Well, that's where I'm at. Maybe I need to read for awhile. I've got 3 books I started reading. It's a wonder I can keep up with each story line doing that.. I got them for Christmas and was so excited because they were the 3 I wanted so I start reading one, then got sidetracked, picked up the 2nd book, started reading that. Got sidetracked again, picked up the 3rd book and now I'm in the middle of that. Am I the only person this happens to? I think I need a B12 shot or something....
In the middle of all this craziness, I did manage to get the pix of the caps I made for my step son who loves them and the kitchen set I knitted right before Christmas. I used my new camera which take waay better pictures than my old one ever could.

Well, at least I can show you what I did manage to accomplish with all my muddle-ness.. (my new word for the day)

Well here's the new cover to the knitting calendar

Can you see 2 familiar cloth designs in the photo? It took me a while, but I found one! Is that my cloth? Sure enough! How exciting to see a beautiful cover for dishcloth patterns then to see 1 of your design samples right there. I was shocked and oh, so honored. But then as I was admiring the other cloths, I found my 2nd cloth. WOW that is soo awsome!

I have 3 designs in the pattern calendar and we all are focusing on color, color, color! Variegateds, Solids, Ombres, Combination of the 2 or 3, who knows what you'll find in this calendar.

12 full months of patterns for dishcloths, baby bibs, towels and much more! Oh and a calender to go with all those awsome patterns.. Who could ask for more???

Good News

Well I think so anyhow... I've not made many threadteds because I always felt they weren't good enough. I enjoyed making the few I've made and always kept saying to myself I'm going to keep going to get better.

My first bear Minshoo [ http://tinyurl.com/6mc8us ] went to my mom who fell in love with him and his ball cap and promptly took him home. I still have my mouse who's residing in my china cabinet with a store bought miniature bear.

Ok, well anyway... Not long after, I made Annabelle and she did turn out very cute if I do say so myself but then mom's are always saying that. Well I couldn't turn loose of her, so she and my mouse were housed in my china cabinet.

[Jump to a yr later]..... A few months ago, an online friend of mine who lives in Queensland Aus. talked me into entering into their fair. Well I didn't have much as far as anything to speak of since everything I make ends up as gifts. I looked around and realized I had 2 doilies and Annabelle. "What the heck" I said. I boxed 'em all up, and shipped them off to her house in Qslnd.

On the 24th of this month, her and her hubby took them over to be entered and [quote from my friend]:
"Paul showed them your bear! They were stunned! Especially when Paul showed them how smoothly the dear little one's joints move. That was fantastic! I wish you and Doug could have been here, it was fun! "

I was in awe, when I read that part of the email. Ok, so maybe I've got a chance. Mind you, she had to be entered as a toy because that was the only catagory to put her in.

Today, I got another email and in it my friend says : "Your thread bear ...... FIRST!"
Wow, I was shocked! My other 2 enteries did ok as well, 1 doily took 3rd and the other didn't place but was very much admired.

To continue this she goes on to add : " I was talking with Mrs Johnson, head steward, and she told me that she popped over to the teddy bear steward with your bear and said "Look what I have here!" The teddy bear steward said "Tell whoever made that to enter it with me next year please." Oh Michelle, my dear, look what you have done for thread bear recognition in Australia!! You are super Michelle. Will you enter it next year please? I can hold it here or you can send the dear little bear back to me but pleeeeease can I put it in next year's show for you?"

You know what I'll tell her?? Absolutely! My Annabelle will now be a Jetsetter bear! Or is that a Bi Continental Bear ? lol I'll send her things [ pillow, blankie and park bench to sit on] over to my friends house there in Aus so she can live with her for the next year till the next fair, then she'll come home. Hubby suggested I make more! Can you belive it? So I've now wiped my desk clean of the other things I've been working on to start working on bears for next year..Hopefully Annabelle will have some friends beside her in the entry table.

Well it's the 22nd and I'm anxiously awaiting the results of the Aus. fair. I entered 2 doilies and a thread ted I had made awhile back and they were the only items that I still had that didn't leave the house. You know how those things happen. You make something. Display it somewhere, the next thing you know, someone comes over, sees it and away it goes right out the door. Never fails...lol Or, you make something like a scarf or 2, maybe a purse or 3. Store them away for future gifting or keeping, whichever comes first, then the next thing you know, the box is empty. Hontestly I don't know how it happens. I think I have ghosts that come in and steal all my stuff 1 item at a time. I'm gonna have to find a better hiding place. That's all there is to it! Because come Christmas I'm gonna need all those items I've been making all year and I can't have them disappearing on me before I need them to. Well anyhow, here's the photos I had taken when each of them were made.

Tatters Unite!!

I'm copying (with Sharon's permission) a post about a recent scam affecting the tatting community. This is very serious because is particular site is scamming people into buying books that are available for free and also the person is stealing photos of tatting projects from other people and "selling" the patterns or implying that the person tatted them.

Most of the vintage tatting pattern books have been scanned and added to the Antique Pattern Library where they may be downloaded for FREE. http://www.antiquepatternlibrary.org/

Anyone looking to complete their collection of books should check out what is available, as new books are added regularly as people have the time to scan the books for inclusion in the library. All of these works are vintage and in the public domain.Recently the tatting community has become aware of a web site which is SELLING these same patterns.

This web site: Tatting Patterns http://www.timelesstattingpatterns.com/ sells the patterns for $37.00 which is extremely expensive when you consider they are available for FREE. There is nothing illegal about selling these patterns as they are in the public domain and if someone puts together an electronic compilation and sells them they are not breaking any laws. However it is important for all tatters to know that they should not BUY the electronic book, they should instead go the the Antique Pattern Library where they can download all of these patterns and more. In fact, it would be much more beneficial to donate the $37. to the Antique Pattern Library which is a non profit organization trying to archive all of the old patterns for posterity, not only in tatting but also in knitting, crochet and embroidery, than to buy this publication. One of the more objectionable things about the web site at: http://www.timelesstattingpatterns.com/ is the Gallery, which has numerous pictures and captions of beautiful and colourful tatting which has been harvested from various web sites, blogs, and photo albums. Some of the pictures are things which tatters have made from these vintage patterns, and the colourful pieces are certainly more eye catching that the black and white drawings in the old books. Other pictures are for things from other publications not in the public domain and a few of the pictures are of original, one of a kind designs, which people were working on and posted to their blogs. These pictures along with captions that went with them form other people's pages imply that the tatting belongs to Timeless Tatting Patterns and that "Timeless" will be producing the patterns for them. All of which means that "Timeless" is benefitting from the work tatters have put into creating the laces and putting the pictures of them on their own web sites. Taking pictures from web sites without the owner's permission is a copyright violation. Using those pictures to help sell an electronic publication of public domain material appears to be a form of false advertising. Now, the "Timeless" web page doesn't say that these colourful pictures of tatting represent things in their publication. It just posts them in their Gallery, but why post them at all if not to mislead? They don't really have anything to do with what is being sold. So if you're a tatter, avoid the "Timeless" web page, except to check for purloined pictures. Additional Note: Posting similar information on your own blog or web site will help to get the information out to a wider audience.
The more people aware of the situation, the sooner it will stop. The gallery has been down for maintenance and back up and as of this posting is down again. Continued pressure on the web site owner and the server will help to keep the gallery closed. Pressure on the gallery owner in the form of polite emails from everyone concerned requesting the removal of the images, and pressure on the server from people with purloined pictures requesting the same. My CP. Recycle Prize Package Arrived!

And wow, what a doozy it is too! I feel like it's my birthday and that's not till Aug..lol

This was the best prize I've ever gotten from this contest.

For those in the group, there's no need to explain how the contest works, but for those not in the group, the contest is about answering a crochet related question. Now, it's not the answer that makes a winner, it's done by picking a number between 1 and however many people entered.

Sponsors are people who volunteer to become Prize Donors. They donate from their stash, usable stuff. Hooks, magazines or leaflets, it might be yarn, even crochet related accessories. All have to be in good usable condition.

I rarely win, so when I saw my name as last week's winner, I had to go back and read it again. There is more than one Michelle in the group you know. But not many live in Biloxi that are also members of Crochet Partners. I was flabbergasted to say the least. It sure brighted up my spirits as I was having a bad dealing week with my dog having to have eye surgery that same week.

I've had so many wonderful comments from people who just love the Feathers towel, that I decided to include a Dishcloth/Washcloth to go with it. It's almost finished and I will have the pattern available soon. This Dishcloth/Washcloth is lacy and together with the towel, is great for a guest bathroom, or makes a very fancy kitchen set. Together, they will make wonderful Housewarming gifts as well as Birthday or Christmas gifts. Or knit a set just for youself!

One Row Button Hole
Kitchner Stitch
Please refer to www.knittinghelp.com . Click on Basic Techniques Section ( Finishing ) to view the videos.
CO 49 stitches ( I used the Long tail cast on as it has more flexability than some cast ons)
Row 1: Purl
Row 2: K3, * yo, k2, ssk, k2tog, k2, yo, k1; rep from * to the last 2 sts, k2.
Row 3: Purl
Row 4: K2, * yo, k2, ssk, k2tog, k2, yo, k1; rep from * to the last 3 sts, k3.
Repeat Rows 1-4; 3 more times.
Now comes the body.
Knit across.
Next Row: K2, PM, Purl across to the last 2 sts; PM, K2.
Continue these 2 rows until your towel is aprox. 9 inches measuring from bottom of the border.

Now comes the decrease. Here you will decide if you want a Stockinette stitch topper or a Garter stitch topper. Either way will work. Sample was made using the stockinette stitch.
If you choose the Stockinette Stitch topper, Purl on all ws rows and dec in Knit on all rs rows.
Garter stitch is knit on all right and wrong side rows.

Row 2 and all even rows: Purl across ( Knit acorss)
Row 3: SSK, K across to last 2 sts; K2tog. = 45

Now for the 'neck'.
Work 13 stitches in Stockinette stitch for 3 inches.

Button Hole: Refer to www.knittinghelp.com buttonhole technique for further assistance
Make sure you have 5 stitches at the beginning and pm (place marker) before last 4 stitches at the end so you'll know when to stop binding off.

Step 1 -- Knit 5 stitches, Bring yarn to front; slip 1 purl-wise, bring yarn to back.

Step 2 -- Slip 1 purl-wise, pass first slipped stitch over second. (repeat this part 2 more times--passing over 3 stitches total, for a 3-stitch buttonhole) Place last stitch back on left needle. ( This last stitch will count as part of your last 5 stitches, so if you didn't bind off enough stitches, be sure you do so before casting on again.) Turn work.

Step 3 -- Cast on 3 stitches (for the 3 stitches you bound off, plus 1) using the cable cast-on method. ( Video at knittinghelp.com)

Step 4 -- Turn work. Bring yarn to back; slip first st of left needle onto right needle and pass last CO st over it. ....Knit the last 4 stitches.

You should now have a total of 13 stitches on your needle.
Knit across for 2 more rows. Leave on your needle and STOP!
With Double Pointed Needles and second ball of yarn:
CO 13 stitches
Row 1: Purl
Row 2: K3, * yo, k2, ssk, k2tog, k2, yo, k1; rep from * to the last 2 sts, k2.
Row 3: Purl
Row 4: K2, * yo, k2, ssk, k2tog, k2, yo, k1; rep from * to the last 3 sts, k3.
Repeat rows 1-4; 2 more times. Leave on your needle!

With the right side of the Feather on your DPN and the wrong side up of your towel, you will now attach the 2 pieces together using the Kitchner stitch.
If you do not know how to do this, go to www.knittinghelp.com and click on Finishing section. Sew on the button of your choice and you're done! Weave in all tails and block if needed.

Do you ever buy a new color yarn then can't figure out for the life of you, what to do with it? Well that's me and cotton yarn. I buy a new color I didn't have already in my stash, then I either want to knit a dishcloth, or crochet a waterbottle holder. But then, what pattern do I choose? I can never get my mind completely made up before I change it. In the end, I end up grabbing a hook and crocheting a waterbottle holder. Never fails! For one, they're fairly quick to work up unless I'm on a design kick, then it's not so quick and 2, if I stick to my basic design, there's no thinking. Single crochet all the way around and up and Voil`a, it's finished in a few hours.

One would think I'd have a pile of these things, but frankly they end up as give aways or in my case 'take aways'. Practically anyone who sees one they like, they take it away from me and to their home. So far, I've managed to keep a hold of the last 3 I made. Not sure how that happens but it won't be long before those get a new home and I'm left empty handed again.

This waterbottle holder is done in the Ombre and solid is from Sugar 'n Cream Confectionaire in the Big Balls.

What's challenging about making these waterbottle holders is that you only get a certain amount of stitches to work with. That's it! No making it bigger or smaller to fit the pattern design. Especially when you're wanting to incorporate 2 colors together into 1 design. Now that makes ya think!

This next one was done with 2 solids. Mauve and Siver Grey. I ordered these from A.A I could have gone straight to Elmore Pisgah but their s&h is a lot higher, plus I ordered some PC yarn as well. Now these 2 colors I didn't have in my stash and I always wanted a Grey. Here I go with the 'What do I knit with it?" question again... I couldn't just decide on which colors to work with first. I kept going from 1 ball to the other saying " I like this one, No. I like this one better." Soo the hook came out and away I went. This is the end result and I really like how it turned out.

It really looks better in person than in the photo, trust me.

This last one done in Robin's Egg ( Aqua) was done awhile ago, I've just not found the 'right' button for it yet. You ever have that problem? I have it all the time. I think that's the hardest part of completing something. The embelishment. In this case it's a requirement. But it doesn't make it any less easier.

2009 Knitting Calendar Patterns

This is my 2nd year designing dishcloth patterns for the calendar and this year was so much more fun and more challenging because of the focus on Solids and Ombre colors. Having the patterns interchange between the two. Knitters who love to knit dishcloths are always asking, "What can I do with the variegateds I have?" "What patterns go well with this Ombre color?" So this time, the emphasis is a bit more on those type colors. It makes you see things differently when trying to design.

While working on my own patterns, ( Katherine, I swear I did not forget about you ), I tested 2 dishcloths for a great dishcloth designer, Susan Mrenna. She's doing the whole alphabet with Pigs and the letters are in the center of the belly, along with some with other pictures in the center. I chose the letter D and the Butterfly to test. Since I'm right in the middle of my 3rd design for the 2009 calendar, time was running out on getting her's done, so I cast on both at the same time. That was fun! One in Peach but the label says Tea Rose and the other in Pink. Went faster than doing 1 at a time but I got them done, blocked, scanned and sent off to her. Much to my delight and suprise, she emailed me this morning saying she is using my photos in her patterns!!! I'm so stoked! I sent her several others that I thought would be more pleasing and 'not in your face' but she opted to use the scanned ones. The others she will use on her Ravelry site. I'm twice excited, to say the least.

I loved how it looked, so worked up one for myself. I did have to rewrite her pattern for my own purposes because she's not clear where to put the first initial ripple stitches. She recommends an F hook, which I used a G hook for mine, so it came out 9 inches H x 11 inches W. It did turn out nice and I intend to make more. I also designed one of my own using her bottom base as the inspiration for mine. Mine will have a shoulder strap which I'm working on now and it has a front flap, but I also added magnetic snaps to both the tote and the purse. Because I liked the color waves tote, I also wanted to do it small, I'm making another using sz. 10 thread in Purple and Purple shades as the striping. I'm using a 7/1.65mm hook. Its not done yet

but I'll have to make it a bit taller and using a snap closer, use it for a cellphone holder.

I call them my flat bottoms because they're, well, flat on the bottom unlike the antique Miser bags or Reticules as they were also called back then..

This time in both knit and crochet. This took awhile because it's done on DPN's. 5 to be exact. The bottom is crocheted because I can't knit in rounds in the starting position yet, but I think I have a way around that.....more later.

Up the sides it sports stockinette stitch and single crochet stitches. The neck is done in garter stitch. The studs are courtesy of the Bedazzler. Yes, I broke down and bought one. Not hard to use either. It's quite fun till you run out of studs and have to go buy more..lol

Sorry about the liquid signature folks, someone stole one of my photos, I've been forced to liquify my stuff. It's fun but still, I shouldn't have to.

Here's the Birthday Presents

I made for a coworker friend of mine. I'm taking it over to her this morning. I made the little pug head because she's got a female pug named Penny. When I saw the pattern for this I knew I had to make it. The muzzle wasn't the easiest to make and sew on and the designer was very rude to me when I had questions about it. Hmm... Not a good sign!

Other than that little shock, the rest was pretty easy to do and she sports a flower on top of her head. I have a small ring at the top center so she can hang it in her truck below the rear view mirror. Sorry the photo isn't better or lighter, this digital camera is crappy but it's pretty much what it looks like in person. I did some shading to resemble her real dog.

Ok, on to the doily. This is a short version of my friend's original doily I made her last year. I was running out of thread and time so I purposely didn't complete the whole pattern. Still looks good I think. Using a sz 5 hook, made it a pretty good size. I might make her a candle holder to sit on it or beside it. We'll see..

These are what I have

been working on this past week along with a couple other items.

All three are my designs. The first one is done using Sage green and Country Blue sz 10 threads together. The 2nd one was done using sz 5 perle cotton Color Variations thread and the 3rd one was made with Senso sz 3 thread. I used sz 2 DPNs on all of them. I've got a new bookmark on the needles now but I'm only using 1 strand of sz 10 on sz 2 needles.

I hope you enjoy looking at them. I've not finished writing up the pattern for the last one. But I will.

Just finished up a few things. Crocheted a scarf for a co worker. Nothing fancy, just length wise, P hook, 2 strands held together and sc'd the whole thing for 10 rows. Took 4 hrs to do. I brought it to work this morning and she loved it! Yarn was Luscious in Pink and Mosiac Twist in Tutie Fruity from H.L on sale .99 ea.

I'm working on another scarf from Patons Divine in Black for another co worker. Gosh I hate to see the girls cold...lol Another length wise scarf, again the same quick style and the same hook sz. This yarn is on sale 50% off at Michaels this week so only paid 2.49 per ball. I would 'T.H.U.D' but I hate that.

Here's the 2 ballband dishcloths I finished up and yes another one is on the needles. 2 browns this time. Well Brown and Ecru. I'd been thinking about those colors together, so will post when that one is done. This first one is done in Natural and Stripes from S&G. The second one was scrap solids I had. with a Natural background. If you hate weaving tails, that one I don't recommend doing then, because it's 2 tails for every color

Here is the water bottle holder I designed too but forgot to post when I finished it, so here it is now. It'll go in the 'gift' pile with some of the others I've done. Yes I know, 'Where's the Button?" Well, I've not found that 'right' button yet, but when I do, I'll know it and have it sewn on 'toot sweet'. lol

And it's only Monday. I caught a cold over this past weekend, now I think I have a bladder infection, which I need to call and get an appt to see a dr. Yuk! I hate doctors. I have to work this whole week then it's sat, sun, mon, tue, wed off from work! Mardi Gras and teacher's work day. Maybe by then I'll be better and can enjoy my 5 day weekend before going back to work.

I did manage to get some of my bear done but not much. When your nose is running every time you sneeze, it's hard to concentrate on an arm or a leg not to mention, I'd hate to give this little guy my cooties...lol

I still have 2 dishcloths on needles that I'm trying to finish. Those are car ride projects. You know how that goes. Not to mention I still have 3 scarves on needles nagging at me every time I walk past their bags. "Work on me! Work on me!"

Well time to hit the road. Work calls.

My St. Patricks Angel

I wanted something nice for my exchange partner. Something a bit different than the standard afghan square or crocheted dishcloth or the like. Although I will send her a dishcloth it will be knitted shamrock dishcloth since I'm hooked on knitting right now. I'm still very new but am loving it! I decided on making an angel. This is supposed to have a pottipouri sachet under the dress but I didn't want to fuss with that part of it, so left it off and put it on a small stand. I couldn't crochet the shamrock small enough for the bodice without it being too overwelming, so I glued a small confetti on it. DH wanted the wings trimmed in silver even though I thought gold would look nicer and I wanted the halo trimmed out as well but coudln't get it to work the way I wanted so I left it plain. This is the end result. I hope she likes it.

More exchange work

I have 1 more item to make then I need to take a break. My wrist is starting to kill me....uugghhh

I started this 12" square this morning and in a few hrs, got it completed. I used TLC Essentials 'Island' color. The pattern comes from heartmadeblessings.org/patterns/BobbysSquare.asp My scanner couldn't get the whole thing but at least the center is visible. I really like this pattern. Her guage and mine are right on target. G hook, for me anyhow, does produce a 12" square. I made sure I measured every few rounds and for every round I had exactly 1 inch. I could never do that with Priscilla Hewitt's patterns. I always had to go down to an F hook. Irritating! Anywhooo, I have to make a doily and then I will be done. Finished! No more!

Geez, only February and I feel like I'm totally behind in projects. I haven't even figured out what to do for christmas yet. Well one good thing. both my neices are learning to crochet, so hopefully that will cross them off the gift giving list. Not to be mean or anything but I have got to shorten my list a bit and they, plus their brother do take up a bulk of the presents I make. Instead of making them stuff, I'll send them ore supplies from my stash. They can always use supplies. I taught my best friend Carmen to crochet while I was back home, so she'll be off my list. Now she understands why it is everytime she wanted me to make her something, I would always say, 'Send me money'. She's seeing the cost of the yarn, patterns and hooks and the time it takes to make something. So instead of making her stuff, I'll send her supplies too. She's wanting to try granny squares and scrap afghans, so this will lighen my load and she can use the yarn for her 'experiments' as she calls them....Hmm, wonder who she got that from. ROFL

I so want to concentrate on knitting. I still have so much to learn. Even tho I'm slow as molasses and I can speed thru crocheting, I still love knitting. Cagles are the next thing I concentrate on. Guess I'd better get started huh?

This little gadget is for me. All mine, mine, mine! Finally something I was able to make and actually not have to give away.. This is my first knitted cell phone holder. My design with the help of a stitch pattern I found. Not too bad for a first timer.

It's made with Roselan DK 100 % Acrylic yarn. Color: Lichen. Made in the UK. I found this cone at the thrift store. It's very soft stuff. too bad they didn't have more cone yarns.

Well I'm off to finish a baby afghan .. or 2..

finally Finished!

I finally finished my Grandmother's dishcloths. One I designed, it's the letter L for Lorraine measuring at 8¾"L x 8½" w. The other was designed by Alli - http://alliknitts.blogspot.com/

who graciously wrote this for a few who was looking for a pattern for this particular design. This one didn't have any original measurements but mine came in at 8L x 8½w using sz 3 needles.

Mary Thistle also wrote one, but I haven't worked that one yet, but I wll.

Monkey's Blankie

My daughter called last week to say Abbie loved her little cousin Victoria's washcloth. It seems Abbie was using it as a blanket for her toy monkey. Poor kid, she tried to take it home with her. So when Abbie got on the phone the same day my daughter called, I asked if she wanted Grandma to make her monkey a blankie. She got excited and said 'Yes Grammie!" I asked, 'What color do you want?", she replied, 'Blue'. Well she doesn't know what particular color of blue she wants since she's only 2 so I found some light blue Caron S.S which I love to work with and made her monkey a blankie.

I'm not sure if her monkey is the same size as the one I use as a prop but Jessica did say it was smaller than the washcloth, so I'm sure this one will fit. It measures 7½" x 7½"

2008 Knitted Dishcloth Calendar

This is the 2nd year for this calendar with new and wonderfully creative designs, 2 of which are mine and I can't wait till it comes out so I can purchase one. This year it will come out 2 ways. Either in a download or in a printed version. All will be sold either thru Paypal or by C.C. Calendars will also be sold to anyone outside the U.S with eletronic funds or thru Paypal charge. Sorry but no foriegn checks or Money orders will be accepted of any kind.

My Birthday Gifts

It's been a full week. I had a birthday last thursday. My coworkers and my supervisor got me a beautiful Peace Lily in a very nice ceramic planter. Then hubby and I went out of town the next day for a mini vacation over the Labor Day weekend. I was off work for the next 4 days following and all of a sudden when the mail came, I started getting small packages. I thought, 'What is all this?" Well one package was from Deborah, an online friend. She made me some lovely dishcloths and a coaster for my birthday. THANKS DEBORAH!! You're a sneak! LOL

Then, yesterday, Friday.. on my way to to work, I stopped at my mailbox to retrieve the mail from the day before because i forgot and there were 2 more packages and a card. "Wow, what's this? OOOH, it's from Cathy and Sherry!" So after I get to work, I opened the packages from Cathy who is another online friend from Aus. I love getting packages from her cuz she's a wonderful crocheter. Well look at what she sent! A tissue cover in thread and I love that Periwinkle color! An Amigurumi Valentine Bird, pen and tablet set. WTG Cathy!! I love them and you did a great job on the birdie. You have got to do another Amigurumi!!! I don't care what you say, you did a wonderful job on it. Thank you bunches my friend!!

Ok, so I get thru that and open Sherry's card and as I opened it a huge suprise fell out of it. HOLY COW!! I almost thought it was fake...lol

THANK YOU SHERRY!! What a lovely gift you sent and lord knows you did not have to do that. I followed your instructions just like you said and with it, I was able to buy the whole Vogue Knitting Stitchionary set. They were 50% off. I had money left over, so took hubby to Mc Donalds for dinner ( Im so cheap...hehehee), still had money left over, so went to Michaels and blew the rest! I bought 2 skeins of Cotton Ease in Lime, a package of mini strand lights for a Thread Ted experiment I want to crochet and as I'm traveling to the Halloween isle I find some mini trick or treat poly resin bags that are decorations for the halloween tree. I thought, ooh, I can crochet a thread ted and one of these can be it's trick or treat bag. Sherry, you are truely a wonderful and caring person!!

To all 3 of my wonderful online friends, you are all truely a gift from God and I'm so greatful to have you all in my life. Never change!

Well I finally got the birthday gifts finished, passed out and no more till next spring...That's just at work mind you. 11 of them Whew!

I finished up another bear, 2 knitted dishcloths, 2 water bottle holders, almost done with a baby dress; still have the sleeves to do then it'll be done. Forgot to take pictures of 1 dishcloth and 1 water bottle holder. Dang I hate when I get in a hurry and forget to do that! O well, chaulk it up with the small list of past projects

I've given away that I forget to get pictures of first.

Baby Chloe

I had so much fun creating Chloe. Chloe is my first 'knothead' bear. She's made with baby yarn. She's a 5 way jointed bear with black glass eyes and embroidered nose. She was not created as a toy but as a collectable. She is a OOAK and even has her own blankie that matches her jammies.
